Why travel diary apps?
Just like on your wedding day, one of the biggest misconceptions about traveling is assuming you’ll never forget a particular moment or feeling. Whether you are canyoning in Baños, Ecuador, surfing Bali, or venturing on an epic New Zealand adventure, these are moments you will treasure for a lifetime. Every moment, big or small, epic or subtle, are things you will never want to forget. The questions are, how do we document and preserve these memories to not only share with friends but with ourselves at a later time? What is the best travel diary app? Why should travelers use it to record their travels and experiences? Let me break it down and let you know why I think Driftr is your new go-to app for all your travel diary and documentation needs.
Introducing Driftr, the best travel diary app of 2018
Driftr was created by a group of travelers and explorers with backgrounds in technology, travel, and hospitality. Driftr is more than just the best travel diary app, it’s a community of travelers sharing adventures in real time. If you have ever wanted to capture the essence of a travel experience, try Driftr. Driftr believes that you deserve a spot on your phone and across the web that helps you plan, travel, and post your adventures as easily as you can share a selfie, order food, or take an Uber across town.
Driftr automatically geo-tags your travel moments
One of my favorite details on Driftr is the location map you can include in posts. When creating a trip you have the option to add a pin to your location. This has been a lifesaver for me when forgetting the names of neighborhoods or giving friends information on areas I visited when traveling. By automatically geo-tagging your memories, your travel diary is effortlessly updated with the most important and often overlooked details.
Driftr streamlines your travel diary into a single app
Keeping a notebook seems like a great idea if you don’t mind carrying it around or losing it, but when we travel things tend to get lost or forgotten whether we think we are in control or not. Life likes to throw some curveballs at us, especially when we travel, you just never know what the next day will hold or where you (and your stuff) will end up. I think notebooks are great for journaling, however, journaling can take a lot of time especially if you don’t write for a living. Driftr has a wonderful RSS feature that allows you import anything you’ve written somewhere else and turn it into a new entry. I like to use the voice recorder on my phone a lot to make notes or store writing materials. Now I can just upload it directly into Driftr’s app.
Driftr streamlines your travel diary into a single device
This goes hand-in-hand with photos. Bringing a camera is a great idea if you glue it to your side. A lot of our photo documenting is happening on our own phones now. Your laptop doesn’t necessarily need to come with you either. With simple editing apps available at the touch of a screen, it’s easy to see why so many travelers are starting to just leave the extra luggage at home. Safety is a big concern and I’m not talking about personal safety. Keeping all your electronics safe can be a lot to juggle in an unfamiliar atmosphere. You can choose to upload photos directly from your phone or snap a photo using the app’s camera. Instagram can be linked directly to Driftr as well. Who wants to be constantly looking for outlets to charge their laptop or camera batteries anyway when you can manage everything on a single device that fits in your pocket? Keep your eyes on your surroundings, you never know what you might miss and want to capture quickly.
Driftr is the minimalists travel diary app
When you put too much pressure on yourself it becomes easy to procrastinate. Trying to vividly describe every single detail of your trip can take a lot of time. Time to abandon that approach knowing most people reading about your travels are just looking for the major details to plan their next trip. Paint your picture with Driftr. Upload your photos to go directly with your content. Keep your descriptions short. I like to add to my post descriptions that if people want to know more details they can message me directly through the app! This way you can give all the information to the person seeking it directly. Anyone using the app can speak directly to you through the chat option. A minimalist’s dream.
Driftr allows you to share your travel diary and view others
Need some suggestions for a place to eat in Cambodia? What about a park to walk through when in Mexico City? Driftr features a “discover” page which gives you up to date trips from others, recommended content based on the content you’ve shared and other articles you can read in your down time that relate to you.

Driftr gives you all the tools you need to take photos, upload photos from your phone or Instagram, journal, pin your location, and chat with other travelers.
